Corpus Christi Power Outage Today 08/15/2026

Nearly 9,000 AEP Texas customers in the downtown, westside, bay area, and uptown areas of Corpus Christi were without power Saturday evening after an issue at a substation, according to the utility. Omar Lopez, a spokesperson for AEP Texas, told KRIS 6 News that 8,800 customers lost power due to a problem at the Morris Street substation.

Lopez said crews were transferring the electrical load and expected to restore service by 9:30 p.m. or sooner. The Corpus Christi power outage was reported amid severe weather and strong winds in the area. Early reports indicate that damaged power lines and utility infrastructure may be contributing to the disruption. Crews have been dispatched to assess affected areas and determine the extent of the damage. Utility crews are continuing restoration work across affected parts of Corpus Christi. The timing of repairs can vary depending on the extent of infrastructure damage and whether additional weather conditions affect repair operations.

The outage may affect traffic signals, businesses, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Drivers should use additional caution at intersections where traffic lights are not operating and follow directions from emergency personnel. Residents should also avoid approaching or touching downed power lines, which can remain dangerous even when they appear inactive.

Crews will continue inspecting the electrical network, repairing damaged equipment and restoring electricity as conditions allow. Restoration times may change as the full extent of the outage becomes known. The Corpus Christi power outage today remains an evolving situation. Residents should rely on official utility updates for confirmed restoration information and continue prioritizing safety while repair crews work throughout the affected areas.
